HYPNOSIS FAQS / MYTHS EXPOSEDWhat is hypnosis?
A mental state where your body and conscious mind are relaxed and your subconscious mind is active and able to receive suggestions. Positive suggestions are provided, which ultimately result in the conscious and subconscious mind believing in the same thing. Does hypnosis really work? The simple answer is yes! In 1958, the American Medical Association (AMA) accepted hypnosis as a viable form of treatment. The power of hypnosis has been well documented by doctors, dentists and many other leading health professionals. How does hypnosis work?Because your conscious mind is the filter and editor of information that passes from your conscious mind to your subconscious mind, hypnosis bypasses the conscious mind. Suggestions are made to the subconscious mind, and as long as the suggestions do not interfere with a person's beliefs, morals or views, the subconscious mind accepts these suggestions as truth. Through repetition, over time the new suggestions take hold. Who can be hypnotized?Anyone who has the commitment to change and is willing to follow the hypnotist's instructions can be hypnotized. However, there are three exceptions. A child under the age of two, a person with Alzheimer's, and a severely mentally challenged person cannot be hypnotized. Is hypnosis sleep? No, hypnosis is the state of consciousness between being awake and being asleep. You will be aware of where you are at all times. You will hear everything around you. What does it feel like?It is a heightened sense of awareness that one feels right before one goes to sleep whereby your body is very relaxed, but your mind is very sharp and focused. There is no specific hypnotized feeling. You will feel very relaxed, as relaxation is the essence of hypnosis. Hypnosis is uniques to each individual. Can I get stuck in hypnosis? You can hear everything and can choose to come out of hypnosis any time you wish. There is absolutely no way you can get stuck in hypnosis. The worse thing that could possibly happen while someone is in hypnosis is falling asleep. You will wake feeling relaxed and energized. Is it dangerous?Hypnosis is a safe and chemical free treatment. Can I be controlled?Absolutely not! The hypnotist cannot make someone do something he or she does not want to do. You can easily reject any suggestion the hypnotist makes, regardless of what it is, if it goes against your beliefs or if it is something you are not 100% committed to. When you are under hypnosis, you are still in control. You can turn it on or off. What if I am nervous? For people who have never been hypnotized and are not sure what to expect, there will be some apprehension. However, there is nothing to be nervous about. The session is very relaxing and you will be in control at all times. What do I do now?If you decide hypnosis can help you, please call, e-mail, or go to our contact page and request an appointment for our free consultation.
